This trenching and excavation safety awareness training course gives workers and supervisors essential awareness of the hazards associated with trenching and excavation work on construction sites across Ontario. Participants will learn to identify common risks such as cave-ins, hazardous atmospheres, water accumulation, and nearby equipment, and understand basic preventive safety controls, including protective systems, safe access/egress, inspections, and emergency response.
The course supports compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Construction Projects Regulation (O. Reg. 213/91) by outlining key legal requirements for trenching and excavation safety and reinforcing general employer and worker duties. This training builds awareness and helps learners understand their responsibilities before working in or around excavations.
