Creating an inclusive and accessible environment isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s the law. This eLearning course provides a clear, comprehensive understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its core requirements.
You’ll explore the fundamental principles of accessibility, learn how to implement the AODA standards in your workplace, and understand your responsibilities in creating a more inclusive community. By applying what you learn, you’ll help break down barriers and improve experiences for individuals with disabilities, both within your organization and beyond.
Who should take this course:
Under the AODA (2005), since January 1, 2012, all obligated organizations are required to ensure that training is provided on:
- The AODA accessibility standards
- The Ontario Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities
This course is essential for:
- All employees and volunteers
- Policy developers within your organization
- Service providers who offer goods, services, or facilities to customers on behalf of your organization
Who must comply:
All organizations that:
- Provide goods, services, or facilities directly to the public or other businesses
- Employ one or more people in Ontario
If your organization falls into these categories, AODA compliance — and this training — is mandatory.
Course Content
This AODA Basic Training Course includes in-depth modules on:
- Understanding AODA and its purpose
- The Customer Service Standard
- The Information and Communication Standard
- AODA compliance reporting deadlines
- How to file a complaint
Each section offers practical examples and insights to help learners apply the standards effectively in real-world scenarios.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain key accessibility principles and understand the importance of inclusive environments for individuals with disabilities
- Identify and describe barriers to accessibility within an organization, including physical, attitudinal, and communication barriers
- Understand the concept of accommodation and its role in providing reasonable support for people with disabilities
- Demonstrate inclusive customer service skills, including communication techniques and assistance strategies
- Describe AODA reporting obligations and understand how and when to submit compliance reports
Delivery Mode
Self-directed online study, available 24/7 through an individual learner account on a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS).

This course is accessible across all devices — laptops, desktops, and mobiles — using any web browser or the Brightspace Pulse App (available on the App Store and Google Play).
Assessment
A minimum score of 80% on the final assessment is required to receive your certificate of completion.
Certification
Learners will receive a digital Certificate of Completion stored within the LMS. A PDF version is also available to download and print for your records.
